For my own part I was surprised at the feel of the machine. The schwinn 420 has a good solid, well built feel to it with a smooth action that is deep enough at 18 inches for my 6ft frame and can be worked forward or backwards to give a well rounded lower torso and leg workout.

For the price I wasn’t expecting much in the way of features and in truth it does have limited gadgets but the feel and action of the machine make up for limited programs and features like fans, ipod fittings, magazine racks etc.

This is a good base model home elliptical. You do get a variety of workout programs (manual and eight profile settings), although I confess to not being a fan of pre-programmed workouts preferring to go according to my heart rate on manual settings. The schwinn has 16 resistance settings so you can flick around the levels if you want to create your own interval style workouts.

As you would expect it comes with a LCD console that will give you a bunch of displays on heart rate, calories, time expended, speed, distance etc. It has a user weight limit of 300 pounds so is maybe more accessible than say a treadmill in the same price range and features a reasonable warranty for its price category coming in at 5 years on the frame and a year on parts and labour. All in all a fine entry cost elliptical that feels like it will give years of service.
